Lama and team win Pro-Am title

The team of professional golfer Sanjay Lama and amateurs Charlie Gurung, Bharat Bastakoti and Tashi Dong won the title of the Surya Nepal Premier Golf Championship Pro-Am here at the Gokarna Golf Club today.
Lama scored 43 points after he returned with the card of seven-under 65 as the team accumulated 160 points to finish first. Gurung earned 41 points, while Bastakoti and Dong added 38 points each.
RNGC pro Ramesh Nagarkoti and amateurs Babu Sherpa, Col Bikash Shah and Atma Ram Simkhada finished second with the total score of 149 points. Nagarkoti scored 38 points, while the three amateur players added 37 points each.
Likewise, pro Sachin Bhatarai and amateur players Kanchan Basnyat, Prithivi Malla and Pratima Sherpa came third with 146 points. Bhattarai earned 38 points, while three amateurs in the team added 36 points each.
The top three teams were declared with top pro teaming up with best three
amateurs, while second placed pro was drawn with fourth, fifth and sixth placed amateurs. Likewise, the second runner-up team included third-placed pro along with seventh, eighth and ninth amateurs.
Charlie Gurung (41) won the best individual scorer’s award in men’s section, while Pratima Sherpa (36) did so in women’s category. Phuntsok N Lama bagged the longest drive award, while Gajendra Limbu claimed the closest-to-the-pin trophy.
A total of 25 pros and 96 amateurs participated in the tournament. Marketing Manager of Surya Nepal Pvt Ltd Bal Kishan Gurung, President of Nepal Golf Association Tashi Ghale and President of Gokarna Golf Club Suhrid Ghimire handed over the prizes to the winners.
The main event, season-ending Surya Nepal Premier Golf Championship, ended yesterday with top pro Shivaram Shrestha winning the title for his sixth trophy of the season and 36th overall. Shrestha posted a 14-under 274 to record a three-shot victory over Surya Prasad Sharma and Sanjay Lama. Sukra Bahadur Rai won the amateur section trophy with the score of five-over 293, finishing four-shot ahead of fellow national team member Tanka Bahadur Karki.
The Nepal PGA organised a total of eight events under the Surya Nepal Golf Tour 2016-17 with Shrestha winning six titles, while Rame Magar and Rabi Khadka bagged one each.
