Saraswoti Club enter ‘A’ Division

Kathmandu, March 26:

Saraswoti Youth Club (SYC) enter the upper Division with a 3-1 win over Boys’ Sports Club in the Martyrs’ Memorial ‘B’ Division League here today.

Saraswoti ended their campaign with 19 points from eight games that included six wins, one draw and one loss. Two of their close contenders Star Club and United Youth Club have 15 and 14 points respectively with one match left. Remaining four games will be just a formality with bottom clubs fighting to avoid relegation. Friends’ Club is at the bottom of the table with three points from six games.

Yogesh Gurung, Subin Ghimire and Tanka Basnet scored for Saraswoti while Uddav Gautam pulled one back for Boys’ Sports. Gurung provided Saraswoti the lead with a superb skill inside the box in the 42nd minute. He beat as many as four defenders before firing into the nets. Ghimire doubled the lead in the 50th and sealed the victory in the 67th minute. Gautam pulled one back in the 90th minute.

Established in 1993, Saraswoti was unlucky last year finishing third. The club was promoted to ‘C’ Division the same year it was established. It entered ‘B’ Division in 2003.

“It would be extremely difficult for us to survive in the ‘A’ Division,” vice-president of the club Bhuvan Parajuli said, adding that the club had no sustainable income source of its own. “We will try to collect as much fund as we can for our survival,” he said.

Earlier, Sano Gaucharan Youth Club beat Pulchowk Sports Club 3-1. Duryodhan Chaudhary scored in the 46th minute. Lile Magar doubled the lead for Sano Gaucharan in the 66th minute before Milas Shahi scored in the 67th. Manoj Lama scored for Pulchowk.
