Schumacher fails CERA test

Berlin: German cyclist Stefan Schumacher was identified today as one of the six athletes from the Beijing Olympic Games who has tested positive for banned blood-booster EPO CERA.

“The German Cycling Federation (BDR) have passed documents about a failed doping test on to the sportsman Stefan Schumacher,” said the BDR.

The International Olympic Commitee (IOC) announced on Tuesday that six sportsmen had tested positive for CERA, a new strain of the illegal blood-booster Erythropoietin (EPO).

Italian cyclist Davide Rebellin, who won Olympic silver in the men’s road race, and 1500m runner Rashid Ramzi from Bahrain, who won gold in Beijing, have also been confirmed as being among the six caught after their samples were retested.
