Seventh National Sports Tournament put off for March next year
KATHMANDU: The Seventh National Sports Tournament has been postponed for March 2016.
The National Sports Council (NSC) has decided to hold the national tournament on March 1-6 next year.
The 104th NSC board meeting presided over by Minister for Youth and Sports and NSC Chair Santya Narayan Mandal on Monday decided to change the tournament date.
Earlier, the national tournament was scheduled to take place from November 27 to December 4 this year.
The Eastern Development Region was chosen as the venue for holding the seventh national sports championship.
The NSC said that it decided to put off the tournament realising that the event on the prescheduled date was not possible due to various problems prevailing in the country.
Likewise, the meeting decided to constitute a preparation and participation committee under the coordination of NSC Member Secretary Keshav Kumar Bista to make arrangements for the country's participation in the 12th South Asian Games (SAG) to be held in Guwahati and Shillong of India on February 6-16 next year.
Nepal will be participating in different sports disciplines including taekwondo, athletics, table tennis, triathlon, swimming, archery, badminton, basketball, boxing, cycling, football, handball, hockey, judo, kabaddi, weight-lifting and shooting in the 12th SAG being hosted by India.
