Sherpa clinches Surya Nepal Monthly Medal

Dawa J Sherpa won the sixth edition title of the Surya Nepal Gokarna Monthly Medal here at the Gokarna Golf Club today.

Played under strokeplay full handicap format, the 23-handicap amateur golfer Sherpa returned the card of nine-under 63 to win the nett category trophy by four strokes. Ang Dendi Sherpa finished second on count back after he was tied with Sonam Norbu Lama at five-under 67 nett. The 13-handicap Sherpa played three-under 33 on the back nine, while the 11-handicapper Lama finished the latter half at two-under 34.

Surendra Phuyal won the gross section title with the score of three-over 75, whereas Mayank Dahal bagged the junior section trophy with the score of seven-over 79 nett. In all, 38 golfers participated in the tournament sponsored by Surya Nepal Pvt Ltd. Gokarna Golf Club President Suhrid Ghimire handed over the prizes to the winners of the tournament.

After the sixth edition, Surendra Phuyal is at the top of the leaderboard in both the nett and gross sections. He leads the nett category table with 250 points, while Ang Dendi Sherpa is second with 150. Devendra Bajgai is third with 140 and Jigmay Dongstetsang is fourth with 125. Dawa J Sherpa, Prabhakar Adhikari, Tendi Sherpa and Prithvi Malla share the fifth position with 100 points.

Phuyal leads the gross section with 390 points, 50 more than second-placed Tashi Tshiring. Wangchen Dhondup is third with 135 points, while Tashi Dong is fourth with 125 and Prithvi Malla fifth with 100. In junior category, Ang Phurba Sherpa is the leader with 340 points, while Mayank Dahal is second with 275 and Sam Doublard third with 250.

A total of 10 monthly medal events will be played until December. Top 40 players in nett category, top 10 in gross and top five in junior section will qualify for the Club Championship finals which will be played over two rounds in January and February next year.
