Shikhar Insurance Company Limited is organising the Shikhar Golf Tournament 2016 at the Gokarna Golf Club from December 16-17.

Around 175 players are expected to take part in the third edition of the tournament that began in 2012. The organisers had to expand the tournament over two days because of the huge number of participation.

“Shikhar Golf Tournament is one of the most coveted amateur golf tournaments of the country and we were forced to make it a two-day event to accommodate the participating golfers,” said Gokarna Golf Club in a release. “Out of the 175 participants, 75 golfers will play their rounds on Friday, while others will play on Saturday.

Apart from the main trophy, 10 golfers each in women’s and junior sections are also vying for the category awards,” the release added.

This tournament will be played over 18 holes on a stableford ¾ handicap format. “The competition will be fierce as we are in the midst of the golf season. The balls are sitting perfectly on the fairway and the greens are rolling as true as it can get.

Most participants are looking forward to take part in this coveted tournament,” the organisers said.

Prizes of the event include winners and runners-up in Men and Women sections and winners in Gross, Senior, Super Senior and Junior categories apart from awards for the longest drive, closest-to-the-pin and most birdies.
