Shrestha wins snooker title

Kathmandu, June 5:

Ummeed Shrestha of Bank of Kathmandu beat Devendra Gurung of Peregerine Adventures 5-4 to win the Lowenbrau third Corporate Snooker Tournament organised jointly by Annapurna Post and Hotel Shangri-La today.

In a thrilling final, Shrestha won the first two frames, before losing the third. But he restored the lead winning the fourth frame. Gurung not only gave Shrestha a tough time, but also levelled the scores at 3-3 winning next two frames. Shrestha then won the seventh, before conceding the eighth taking the match into the deciding final frame. Both the players opted the ‘safe’ strategy and finally Shrestha emerged victorious with a 54-42 points.

Shrestha won the first two frames 49-41, 96-24, while Gurung won the third 77-27. In the low scoring fourth frame, Shrestha registered a 45-23 win, while Gurung won the next two frames 81-25 and 50-37. Shrestha managed a 60-58 win the seventh frame, while Gurung took the eighth frame 68-25.

Varun Beverages was the main sponsor, while Dragon Air, Krishi Premura and Photo Concern were the other sponsors of the event. Image Channel and Image FM were the media partners of the tournament.
