Beijing, June 26:

China announced that the slogan for the 2008 Summer Olympic Games will be “One World, One Dream.” This slogan “embodies the common aspirations of the 1.3 billion Chinese people in establishing a world of peace and a better future,” said Liu Qi, president of the Olympics organising committee.

Chinese Cabinet member Li Changchun announced the slogan at a song and dance gala in the city’s Worker’s Stadium. The slogan was chosen out of 210,000 proposals submitted in Chinese, French, Spanish, Portuguese and many other languages, Liu said.

Also on Sunday, China started construction on its 66-hectare Olympic Village where 16,000 athletes and officials are expected to live during the 2008 summer games.

The facility, in the north of the capital, is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2007, a press release from the Beijing Olympic Organising Committee said.
