SAG, Asiad medallists receive allowances

Kathmandu, November 28

National Sports Council handed over the four-month allowances to the South Asian Games gold medallists and Asian Games medal winners here today.

The NSC had announced of providing the SA Games gold medal winners and Asiad medallists with Rs 5,000 each for life-time. Similarly, SA Games multiple gold medal winners and Asian Games multiple medallists received another Rs 5,000 each per medal.

Minister for Youth and Sports Daljit Sripaili, Ministry of Youth and Sports Secretary Mahesh Prasad Dahal, Joint Secretary Choodamani Paudel and NSC Member Secretary Keshab Kumar Bista handed over a total of Rs 2.18 million to 93 players amidst a programme organised at the Olympian semi-covered hall.

The SA Games’ 85 medallists along with Asiad’s five medal winners got the allowances of four months of this fiscal year, while the families of late boxers Dal Bahadur Rana Magar and Puskar Raj Shahi and swimmer Chitra Bahadur Gurung were provided with the allowances of 20 months.

Legendary marathon athlete Baikuntha Manandhar, footballer Raju Kaji Shakya, taekwondo players Deepak Bista, Sangina Baidya and Ayesha Shakya, karate player Deepak Shrestha and boxer Chitra Bahadur Gurung were the players with multiple medals.

Among them Bista is the most successful with four SA Games gold and two Asian Games bronze medals, while Manandhar is the three-time SA Games gold medallist.
