South Asian Games will be held on time, says Sports Minister KC

Minister for Youth and Sports Rajendra Kumar KC today said the Dasharath Stadium would be reconstructed under fast track to get it ready for the 13th South Asian Games in 2019.

Minister KC inspected the stadium which was hit hard by the earthquake that struck the country in 2015, as well as national teams’ preparation. “And the reconstruction works for the only stadium of Kathmandu will be done under fast track as the DPR has already been signed,” said Minister KC.

Minister KC reiterated that the 13th SA Games would be hosted in Nepal in 2019. The South Asia Olympic Council (SAOC) on December 3 last year had decided to organise the regional sporting extravaganza from March 9-18 in 2019. Nepal Olympic Committee President Jeevan Ram Shrestha is the president of SAOC. “We will definitely organise the SA Games on time,” said KC.

Minister KC also informed that China government was interested in replacing the synthetic track at the Dasharath Stadium. “We will have a new synthetic track at the earliest as Chinese authorities have already finished the inspection,” said KC.

The Minister said that the players and coaches needed more facilities and that he would increase it as per the economic situation of the country. Besides inspecting the stadium, Minster KC also inquired about the national teams’ preparation as well as visited the Sports Medicine department.
