Special Games from June 28

KATHMANDU: Nepal Paralympic Association is organising the 14th School-level National Special Games and 12th Cultural Competition from June 28-30 in Kathmandu.

The Special Games will be held at the Dasharath Stadium on June 28 and 29 with a total of 585 players taking part in various events of athletics in four categories — hearing impaired, physically challenged, blind and mentally challenged, said the organisers at a press meet today. Out of the total 585 players, 360 are from the valley and 225 from other districts. Among the 120 officials, 65 are from the valley and 55 from other districts, the organisers said. The players will be provided the allowance of Rs 400 per day apart from the transportation fares.

The athletics competition includes 100m, 200m, 400m, shot put, javelin throw, soft ball, high jump, long jump and 4X200m relay. The championship offers a total of 999 medals, 333 each of gold, silver and bronze. The cultural competition is slated for Jun 30 at the National Cultural Corporation. The Education Department of Education Ministry has allocated Rs 1.2 million and Youth and Sports Ministry has provided Rs 800,000 for the Games, informed President of NPC Deepak Koirala, who is also the convenor of the Games.

“As we do not have enough infrastructures in all the districts and regions, we are organising the Games by the optimum use of the resources available,” said Koirala. He also demanded the inclusion of the sports played by the differently-able players in the constitution.
