St Xaviers, North East advance to quarters

Kathmandu, June 18:

St Xavier’s, North East, Gothatar, Siddhi Ganesh and Gyan Shikha entered the Group J quarter-finals of the selection tournament for the Coca Cola Inter-school National Football Tournament at the Sano Gauc-haran grounds today.

Suraj Bhandari scored a hat-trick as St Xavier’s routed Saraswoti 5-0. Vivek Pradhan and Sarbagya Prasain also scored for the winners.

In the second match, North East defeated Pacific Academy 4-1 on penalties after a 2-2 draw in the regulation time. Rabin Khadka and Milan Khadka scored for North East, while Rahul KC and Birendra Aide got goals for Pacific Academy.

Also, Gyan Shikha eliminated William Public School 3-2 in tie-breaker after both the teams were deadlocked at 1-1. Ram Bahadur Jendi had put Gyan Shikha ahead in the sixth minute, while Rabin Thapa scored the equaliser for William in the 24th minute.

Ujjwol Dahal scored a solitary goal in the 23rd minute in Gothatar’s 1-0 victory over Kathmandu Vidhya Mandir.

Anoj Bhandari struck the second hat-trick of the day to propel Siddhi Ganesh School to a 6-2 win over Wilson Academy. Rakesh Lopchan and Navin Lama also scored for the winners, while Navaraj Dahal netted both the goals for Wilson Academy.
