Sujendra beats Lahari
Lalitpur, August 14:
Sujendra Prasad Shrestha recorded a stunning win over India’s International Master (IM) Atanu Lahari in the fourth round of the first Indo-Nepal Friendly Rating Chess Tournament today.
With the win Sujendra have four points from four rounds of play. Indian IM duo Saptarishi Roy and Shanker also have equal four points after the completion of fourth round of the tournament organised by Nepal Chess Association headed by Sitaram Agrahari and sponsored by BP Koirala Nepal-India Foundation.
Shanker defeated Balram Napit while Saptarishi prevailed over Janardan Shrestha. Likewise, another Indian IM Roktim Bandhopadhayaya and Bipul Subhasi ended their game in a draw. Roktim, Bipul, Surbir Lama and Uttam Thapa and Rajan Khatri are tied for second with 3.5 points.
Surbir beat Pawan Khadka while Uttam defeated India’s Shanker Majumdar. Rajan overcame Ganesh Man Duwal. Sujendra’s family members Rajendra Prasad, Gyanendra Prasad and Ratish also won today. Gyanendra beat former national champion Punyaman Karmacharya, Rajendra defeated Buddhi Rai and Ratish eased past Jit Bahadur. Rajendra and Gyanendra have three points each.
Sitaram Agrawal also have three points after his win over Monalisa Khumbu. Other tied on three points were Lava Kumar Shrestha, Manish Hamal, Bijay Kumar, Barun Paul, Balram Napit, Sagar Dangol and Bikash Gurung.
