Rai claims golds

Eastern Region won both the individual and team events gold medals in National Golf Tournament here at the Nirvana Country Club today.

Sukra Bahadur Rai finished first in the individual section with the 54-hole total of 213, while his Eastern Region teammates Sundar Rai (221) and Yubraj Bhujel (225) bagged silver and bronze medals respectively. Rai carded one-under 69 in the final round to register an eight-stroke win over Bhujel, who shot 74. Bhujel (77) was further four strokes behind.

In the team event, Eastern Region team of Eastern Region team of Sukra Bahadur Rai, Shiva Kumar Majhi and Raju Rai won the gold medal with the total score of 19-over 439. They registered a 33-stroke victory over Western Region team of Dal Bahadur Lama, Kamal Tamang and Prajwal Gurung, who posted 472 over the three days. Tribhuvan Army Club team of Lt Col Basanta Gurung, Maj Nischaya Jung Rayamajhi and Prithivi Malla bagged bronze medal with the total score of 478.

A total of 34 players and four teams are taking part in the three-day competition, which was removed by the National Sports Council in the last moment. The NSC, however, has sent the medals and certificates for the winners and also allocated a budget of Rs 500,000.
