Sunar equals 200m record of Tharu

Kathmandu, December 5

Yam Sajan Sunar of Nepal APF Club equalled the record of Tilak Ram Tharu in 200m race on the third day of an open selection tournament for the 12th South Asian Games here at the Dasharath Stadium today.

Sunar completed the distance in 21.5s, equalling the record of Tharu, who had set the mark during the Golden Sprint in February 2013. Himal KC of Tribhuvan Army Club clocked 22.5s for the second spot and Aananda Dev Chaudhary of TAC was third at 22.5s.

In women’s section, Manmati Bista of Nepal Police Club clinched gold with the timing of 25.9s, while Dilmaya Karki (26.2) of APF and Krishna Chaudhary (26.5) of TAC took silver and bronze respectively.

Hari Kumar Rimal of TAC clocked 31.39.9s ahead of Gopi Chand Parki (31.40.9s) of Nepal APF Club to clinch the 1,000m gold, while Lal Bahadur Thapa of TAC finished the race in 32.35.7s for the bronze medal. In women’s section, Bishowrupa Budha of TAC completed the distance in 38:36.4s ahead of Renu Basnet of TAC, who clocked 40:35.5.

In men’s Triple jump, Chandra Dev Joshi of NPC claimed gold with the distance of 14.01m, while Puspendra Kumar Goit (13.06) from Dhanusa bagged silver and Bhabindra Giri (13.58) took bronze respectively. In women’s section, Kesari Chaudhary of NPC finished first with the jump of 12.19m, while Sila Chaudhari of APF came second at 11.26m and Barsa Bhattarai was third with the jump of 10.17m.

In men’s 1500m race, Chhatra Bahadur Dahal of TAC finished ahead of Karan Khadka of NPC. Dahal completed the distance in 4:00.7, while Khadka clocked 4:08.7. Laxman Thapa of NPC came third in 4:23.5. In women’s section, Saraswoti Bhattari of TAC clinched gold with the timing of 4:55.9, while Sanu Maya Karki of TAC clocked 4:58.5 for the silver and Santosi Shrestha bagged bronze at 5:10.8.

In men’s 110m hurdle, Yogendra Lama of TAC clocked 15.6s for the first position, while Shova Kant Jammarkattel of TAC came second in 16.2s and Chandra Dev Joshi was third with the timing of 17.2s. In women’s section, lone participant Sabita Chaudhari of APF finished the distance in 17.5s.

In men’s discuss throw, Rajendra Basnet of TAC took gold covering the distance of 33.45m, while Puskal Khadka (33.40m) of NPC and Krishna Bahadur Basnet (30.95m) of TAC finished second and third respectively. In women’s section, Amrit Mahato of TAC clinched gold with the throw of 36.47m , while Hiran Chaudhary (31.55m) of NPC and Jit Kumari Mahato (30.69m) of APF win bronze and silver respectively.
