Surajmuni, Mala advance to final

Kathmandu, July 11:

Surajmuni Hemran of Jhapa and Mala Rai of Armed Police Force (APF) advanced to the women’s 46kg final at the Second Junior Men and Women’s Open Boxing Championship here today.

Surajmuni defeated Apsara KC of Lalitpur and Mala overcame Pratima Darshan of Boshigaun Sports Club (BSC) in the semi-finals. Likewise, Maya Chaudhary of APF and Pramila Pandey will fight for the women’s 48kg championship. Maya beat Lalita Maharjan of BSC and Pramila ousted Bishnu Suhad of Jhapa.

Entering in the final of the men’s 75kg section were Ujjar Singh Thapa of Nepali Army and Surbindra Bikram Sijapati of Central Boxing Training Centre (CBTC). Ujjar edged out Ashok KC of Naxal Youth Mandal and Surbindra Bikram saw off Tek Bahadur Chand of Defence Boxing Club (DBC) to set up the championship fight.

In the men’s 69kg semi-finals, Ek Bahadur Ghale of Nepali Army beat Sunil Maharjan of Lalitpur and Chetra Bahadur Saru of Surkhet dispatched Sitaram Shrestha of Lalitpur. Making it to the final of the men’s 64kg section were Rupak Maharjan of Nepal Youth Boxing Group (NYBG)

and Umesh Kumar Tharu of Nepali Army. Rupak eliminated Rakesh Sadhan of Bhaktapur

and Umesh Kumar overcame Ashok Sris of Rupandehi.

Nrip Prasad Gajamer of Jhapa defeated Anish Maharjan of NYBG to set up the 60kg championship fight with Pashupati Kumal of Nepali Army, a semi-final winner over Binod Chaudhary of CBTC.

Likewise, Surendra Karki of Tikathali ousted Madhuram Maharjan of NYBG and Om Bahadur Pun of Nepali Army saw off Surendra Awale of Patan Boxing Club (PBC) to set up the 57kg final.

Advancing in the final of the men’s 54kg section were Satyaram Koju of PBC and Anjil

Maharjan of BSC. Satyaram prevailed over Krishna Rai of Jhapa and Anjil dispatched Raju Raj Shahi of CBTC.

Sudesh Manandhar of Makwanpur and Kabindra Maharjan of APF entered the final in the men’s 51kg section. Sudesh ousted Umesh Rijal of Tikathali and Kabindra defeated Srimat Soren of Jhapa.

Also making it to the final of the men’s 48kg section were Saran Maharjan of BSC and Deepak Sunar of Nepali Army. Jutin Hemran of Jhapa set up a men’s 45kg title clash with Sabin Nepali of Makwanpur. Jutin beat Raju Maharjan of Meghdoot Club and Sabin overcame Ganesh Budhathoki of Surkhet.
