Surya Nepal Masters tees off on June 2

Kathmandu, May 29:

The 15th Surya Nepal Masters 2008 is slated for June 2-7 at the Le Meridien Gokarna Forest Golf Resort and Spa.

Surya Nepal Masters is the flagship event of Nepal’s first professional golf tour which recently teed off with the Surya Nepal Central Open. Top professionals from India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Malaysia will compete for the championship. This year top amateurs from India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Nepal will represent their country in team event.

Surya Nepal has been associated with the event since its inception in 1993, and today the two million rupees event has established itself as the biggest international golf tournament in Nepal.

Surya Nepal Masters tees off on June 2 with the Standard Chartered Pro Am. Pro Am is an opportunity for amateur golfers from the Corporate world and the Diplomatic Corps to rub shoulders with the best professionals in the business. About 25 teams will participate in the Standard Chartered Pro-Am.

The main event will tee off from June 3. Nepali pro Deepak Thapa Magar won the 2007 edition. The event will witness 110 pros and 15 amateurs vying for the championship. Pros Shivaram Shrestha, Deepak Thapa Magar, Deepak Acharya, Ramesh Nagarkoti, Deepak Neupane,Ravi Khadka, Sanjay Lama, Ram Thapa and Deepak Thapa Magar will lead the Nepali field.

Surya Nepal Pvt Ltd and Nepal NPGA in association with Nepal Tourism Board, Standard Chartered Bank Nepal Ltd and the Le Meridien Gokarna Forest Golf Resort and Spa have joined hands to organise the event.
