Kathmandu, December 11:

Royal Thai Embassy in Kathmandu and Thai Airways International, Nepal are jointly organising the Thai Open Golf Tournament at Gokarna Forest Golf Resort and Spa on December 17 to mark the 60th Anniversary of King Bhumibol Adulyadej of Thailand’s accession to throne and 38th Anniversary of operation of Thai Airways International in Nepal.

About 100 golfers from Gokarna Golf Club, Royal Nepal Golf Club, and Tribhuvan Army Officers’ Golf Club are expected to take part in the one-day event to be played in stableford 7/8-handicap format, said the organisers at a press meet today.

Thai Ambassador to Nepal Vanvisa Thanrongnavasawas said that the event was more about entertainment and friendship than a competition. “This is an important year for Thai people and we though it was a good time to resume the tournament, which was not held for many years,” she said.

Yutthanai Piamprom, General Manager of Thai Airways International in Nepal and Bhutan and professional golfer Deepak Acharya, golf director at Le Meridien Gokarna Forest Golf Resort and Spa also expressed their views on the occasion.

The winner of the event will receive a round ticket to Thailand. The same prizes have also been kept for the two Hole in One feats in any of the 18 holes at the par-72 course.
