Thapa wins fifth Monthly Medal title

Dhruba Thapa won the fifth edition title of the Surya Nepal Gokarna Monthly Medal golf tournament here at the Gokarna Golf Club today.

Thapa, the 16-handicap amateur golfer, scored six-under 66 nett to lift the trophy. Jigmay Dongstetsang, who played with an allowance of nine handicap, came second with the score of four-under 68 nett. Ang Dendi Sherpa finished third on count back after he was tied on three-under 69 with Harish Gorsia.

Prithivi Malla won the gross section trophy after he scored two-over 74, while Devasri Rana carded three-over 75 to win the junior category title. A total of 46 golfers participated in the tournament organised by Gokarna Golf Club under the sponsorship of Surya Nepal Pvt Ltd.

A total of 10 monthly medal rounds will be played until December.

After the completion of 10 medal rounds in December, top 40 in nett section and top 10 in gross and junior categories will qualify for the Club Championship finals. The finals will be played over two rounds in January and February next year. Despite finishing second, Jigmay Dongstetsang moved to the top of the nett section table with 330 points, while Lt Gen KNS Thapa is second with 240 points. Phintso Ongdi Lama and winner of the fifth edition Thapa share the third position with 210 points, while Dr Bhagwan Koirala is fifth with 200 points.

In gross section, Vijay Shrestha Einhaus leads the table with 115 points, while Tendi Sherpa is second with 70. SSP Rajendra Shrestha (65), Dongstetsang (60) and Phintso Ongdi Lama (45) are in top five. Likewise, Devasri Rana leads junior section table with 160 points, while Tenzin Yoden Lama is second with 110, followed by Shreeyog Basnyat (70), Sam Doublard (50) and Arnav Shah (40).

Meanwhile, Gokarna Golf Club organised a farewell programme to Country Manager of Pernod Ricard Ravinder Saini after the tournament. Saini was a regular golfer and big supporter of the sport, informed the club.
