Thierry Henry to stay at Arsenal

London, May 19:

Thierry Henry is staying at Arsenal after all. Henry said on Friday he agreed to a new four-year contract with the Gunners, ending mon-ths of speculation about his future. He had one year left on his contract and had been widely reported to be considering a move to FC Barcelona, which beat Arsenal 2-1 in Wednesday’s Champions League final.

“I am staying to play longer for the club that I love,” Henry said at a news conference. Henry is set to earn as much as $244,000 a week. That makes him one of England’s two highest-paid players, along with Michael Ballack, who joined Chelsea on Monday from Bayern Munich. Henry said he came to his decision soon after Arsenal’s Champions League defeat at the Stade de France near Paris.
