Third Pigeon Tournament to be held from May 24
The Third Pigeon Tournament is to be held from May 24 for three days. In a press release issued by Nepal Pigeon Keerper’s Association, it is informed that 77 pigeons of 11 pigeon keepers affiliated to the association are participating in the tournament.
According to Jitendra Raj Bagracharya, publicity coordinator, each contestant will release five to seven trained pigeons from his or her own home. Those pigeons will be levelled and two organizing committee members will observe the release. After the landing of pigeons the flying hours will be counted and according to the time duration, the pigeon that fly for more times, will be entitled as “Best Pigeon of the Tournament. The contestants also provided prizes according to the flying hour of their pigeons.
Whoever, the tournament is not new for Nepali. About 80 years ago, the Rana rulers used to organize the tournaments between their relatives. The first organized tournament was held in 2000.
