Bayern win double
BERLIN: Bayern Munich completed its fifth domestic double when Hasan Salihamidzic came off the bench to score the winning goal in a 2-1 win over Schalke in the German Cup final Saturday. In his first season as coach of Bayern, Felix Magath won the Bundesliga championship and the German Cup. Schalke finished runner-up to Bayern in the league. — AP
Spurs dismantle Suns
San Antonio: Their offence already was clicking. Now the San Antonio Spurs have their defence cranked up, too, and that might leave the Phoenix Suns out of ways to beat them. Tim Duncan and the Spurs dismantled everything the Suns tried for most of Game 3 of the Western Conference finals, turning their superb defence into a 102-92 victory that puts them on the brink of reaching the championship round. The Spurs lead the series 3-0, and no team ever rallied from that deficit in the NBA playoffs. Phoenix seems pretty unlikely to change it. — AFP
England beat US
CHICAGO: Kieran Richardson scored twice in his first appearance for England, leading a 2-1 victory over the United States. Clint Dempsey scored his first career goal in the second half to spoil England’s shutout. The match, the first in a two-game US trip for England, was the first time the two had met since 1994, when the English won 2-0 at Wembley to avenge a loss in Foxboro, the year before. — AP
