Rain washes out first day

WELLINGTON: Misty rain and fog forced the first day of the second Test between New Zealand and Australia to be abandoned without a ball being bowled on Friday. Play was rescheduled to start half an hour earlier on Saturday but the weather outlook was for similar conditions and there was only a remote chance of play. — AFP

Baglung finish third

TANAHUN: Farin Pun scored two goals as Baglung Municipality defeated Lekhnath Municipality 3-2 in the third place play-off at the Birendra Memorial Inter-municipality Regional Football Tournament, here today. For Baglung, Krishna BK scored the other goal whereas Bikash Gurung netted both goals for Lekhnath. Asst coaches’ training held

KATHMANDU: Babu Ram Upadhyaya of hockey and Rajani Shrestha of badminton were declared the best assistant coaches at the Assistant Coaches’ Training organised by Nepal Sports Foundation. Out of 21 participants, 18 passed the three-month training, held under the NSC programme. NSC member secretary Kishor Bahadur Singh awarded the participants. — HNS
