TIME OUT

Inter-school cricket:

LALITPUR: United School is organising the 2nd KB Khatri Memorial Inter-school Cricket Tournament from February 19 at Laboratory School. In all, 16 teams will take part in the tournament. Teams will be divided into two pools and the top two teams from both the pool will qualify for the semi-finals. — HNS

Tendulkar sidelined:

MUMBAI: Sachin Tendulkar’s absence stands out glaringly as India’s rusty cricketers flex their limbs from Monday to prepare for next month’s series against Pakistan. Tendulkar has still not fully recovered from a tennis elbow injury sustained in August last year. He was advised by doctors not to pick up a bat for six weeks, a period that ends in mid-February. Tendulkar will miss the Challenger one-day series, featuring the top 36 players, which starts on Monday. — AP

Parry wins in Melbourne:

MELBOURNE: The last time Craig Parry was involved in a playoff, he holed a 176-yard to win the Ford Championship in Florida last March. Any wonder, then, that his four-hole playoff victory on Sunday over fellow Australian Nick O’Hern at the Heineken Classic seemed a bit tougher. After Parry made a 12-foot birdie putt on the fourth extra hole, O’Hern missed a 10-foot birdie attempt to end the tournament. — AP

Gunners launch inquiry:

LONDON: The Premier League announced on Sunday it will launch an inquiry into whether Chelsea made an illegal approach for Arsenal’s Ashley Cole. Reports have alleged that Chelsea chief executive Peter Kenyon and manager Jose Mourinho met the England defender at a London hotel to discuss a potential move. Such a meeting is against Premier League rules which forbid clubs from approaching players without first contacting their teams. — AP
