Chetan Pandey injured

KATHMANDU: Chetan Pandey, who joined Nepal Sports Journalists Forum on July 2, dislocated his elbow just after NSJF lost 5-1 to Kathmandu District Football Association in a friendly match at Sano Gaucharan today. Pandey, who scored NSJF’s only goal, was the was rushed to Himal Nursing Home, where x-ray revealed that his left-arm elbow was dislocated. For Kathmandu DFA, Birat Jung Shahi scored a hat-trick, while Umesh Pandey and Prabesh KC netted one goal each. — HNS

Gyanodaya ‘red’ triumph

LALITPUR: Gyanodya ‘red’ defeated Whitefield College 58-55 in the inaugural match of the Valley-wide Inter-college Basketball Championship here today. In the close match, the scores were tied for 11 times, including a 40-40 in the third quarter. Amit Tulachan scored 20 points for Gyanodaya, while Karma Gurung netted 15 for Whitefield. In all, 11 teams are taking part in the tournament which has been organised by Gyan Club to mark King Gyanendra’s 58th birthday. Earlier, founder principal of Gyanodaya School Indira Yakthumba inaugurated the tournament. — HNS

Harbhajan back

NEW DELHI: India’s ace off spinner Harbhajan Singh returned to the Indian cricket team after a six-month recovery from a finger injury to play in the limited-overs Asia Cup in Sri Lanka this month. Singh had an operation in Australia in December to repair a ruptured ligament in his bowling hand. Left-arm paceman Zaheer Khan also was included in the 14-member team announced by SK Nair, secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India. There were no surprises in the team. — AP
