APCA take on BoAN

KATHMANDU: APCA Nepal and Bank of Asia Nepal (BoAN) will meet again as the Soaltee Crowne Plaza Super Sixes Cricket Tournament begins here at the Tribhuvan University Stadium from Wednesday. Heavy downpour on October 7 forced the postponement of the event with only 10 matches completed over the two days play. The tournament restarts with two matches washed on Ocotber 7 — APCA vs BoAN and Indian Embassy vs NMB Bank. Citizens International Bank and Spice Nepal have already qualified for the Super League after winning both of their two Group ‘A’ and ‘B’ matches respectively. Top two teams from each of the eight groups qualify for the Super League. — HNS

Rs 500,000 raised

KATHMANDU: The Nepali Congress Mulpani Village Committee have raised a fund of more than Rs 500,000 from the deusi-bhailo programme in the village. The fund, collected after a two-day programme, would be used for the construction of sports ground in Manohara in Mulpani VDC. The Mulpani VDC have already released Rs 500,000 for the construction. The construction work will begin shortly, said the Nepali Congress, Mulpani, in a release on Tuesday. — HNS

Larsson set to retire

STOCKHOLM: Henrik Larsson will retire at the end of Swedish domestic season. Larsson’s club Helsingborg said on Tuesday that the 38-year-old striker is retiring from professional football on November 1. He won the Golden Boot as Europe’s top scorer in 2000-01 while playing for Glasgow Celtic. Larsson also played for Barcelona and had a stint at Manchester United in 2007, and played in three World Cups and three European Championships for Sweden. He scored 37 internationals in 106 matches for Sweden. — AP
