Pitambar is NSC Veep

KATHMANDU: Pitambar Timalsina and Amar Chandra Anil were appointed the vice-president and treasurer of the National Sports Council (NSC) respectively. Youth and Sports Minister and NSC’s president Ganesh Tiwari Nepali appointed Timalsina and Anil in the post. Timalsina and Anil are among the 10 NSC board members who were appointed by the cabinet meeting on September 26. Rita Jha, Ritakumari Thakur, Geeta Shrestha, Min Krishna Maharjan, Kishore Rai, Khadga Bahadur Ranabhat, Satya Narayan Chaudhary and Rabindra Yadav are the other NSC board members. — HNS

Nationwide Boxing

KATHMANDU: The preparation for the second Nationwide Open Boxing Tournament slated for October 10-14 has reached the last stage, organisers Lalitpur District Boxing Association said at a press meet on Monday. A total of 200 players from various clubs, District Sports Development Committee and three departmental teams of Nepal Army, Nepal Police and Nepal APF will participate in the tournament to be played at Jawalakhel grounds. The players will participate in 16 categories — 10 in men and 6 in women’s. The men’s event include 48, 51, 54, 57, 60, 64, 69, 75, 81 and 91kg weight categories while the women’s event include 46, 48, 51, 54, 57 and 60kg weight sections. The event is also a basis for the selection of players for the 11th South Asian Games to be held in Dhaka from January 29 to February 10. — HNS

Sports Festival

KATHMANDU: The Hemanta Smriti Cup sports festival is beginning in Jiri on Tuesday. The festival includes men’s volleyball tournament, 6-km men’s and 2-km women’s races. The festival is organised by the Jiri Sports Association. — HNS
