Jharana feted

KATHMANDU: The bronze medallist of the first Asian Martial Arts Games, Jharna Gurung was felicitated by the Nepal Wushu Association on Thursday. Gurung claimed bronze in the women’s 60kg weight category during the Games in Bangkok. Her coach Chok Bahadur Thapa Magar was also feted on the occasion. Gurung was the only one to claim a medal in the Games where 18 Nepal players took part in four events - wushu, karate, taekwondo and judo. — HNS

Hosts win

KATHMANDU: Hosts Budhanilkantha School defeated Active College 3-0 in the inaugural match of the NK Memorial Inter-college Football Tournament here on Thursday. Man of the match Rohit Khadka, Surya Gurung and Pragyan Upretti scored a goal each for the winners. In all, 16 teams are taking part in the tournament, organised by STAR Club of Budhanilkantha School in memory of the school’s teacher Narayan Khadka. — HNS

LRI triumph

KATHMANDU: Learning Realm International (LRI) and New Zenith School won their matches at the eighth Kirtipur Inter-school Boys Basketball Tournament on Thursday. LRI crushed Puspasadan 63-35 and New Zenith beat Rato Bangala 42-37. Also, Rara Hill overpowered Mangal School 57-12, Arniko thrashed GEMS 64-29 and Panga School eased to a comfortable 51-24 win over Rato Bangala. — HNS
