AFC Challenge Cup
KATHMANDU: Palestine and Kyrgyzstan will play the deciding AFC Challenge Cup Group ‘C’ qualifying match here at the Dasharath Stadium on Monday. Both the teams have one point having played draws against hosts Nepal, who ended up with two points from as many matches. Winner of Monday’s match will qualify for the finals to be held in India next year. A goalless draw between the two teams is the only favourable result for Nepal. Winners of each of the four qualifying groups along with one best runner up team will join defending champions India, Tajikistan and DPR Korea in the eight-team finals. — HNS
Jankovic upset
Miami: World No 1 Rafael Nadal and Serena Williams advanced to the third round of the ATP and WTA Miami hardcourt tournament but Serbian third seed Jelena Jankovic was ousted on Saturday. Nadal dismissed 72nd-ranked Teimuraz Gabshvili of Russia 6-2, 6-2 while Williams, a two-time defending champion, beat fellow American Alexa Glatch 6-2, 6-3. The biggest shocker so far at the event saw Argentina’s Gisela Dulko, ranked 35th in the world, eliminate Jankovic 6-4, 7-6 (7/5). Also advancing were reigning Wimbledon champion Venus Williams, the fifth seed, and fourth seed Andy Murray. — AFP
