LALITPUR: Sankata Kathmandu Mall Club cruised to a 3-0 win over Samsung Jawalakhel Youth Club in the Nepal Bank ‘A’ Division Junior (U-14) Football League here on Tuesday. Hemanta Gurung opened the scoring in the 19th minute before Ram Kumar Kumal added the second in the 49th and Raj Shrestha the third in the 65th minute. In the other match, NIBL Friends Club edged past Nepal Armed Police Force (APF) Club 2-1. Man Bahadur Gurung scored in the 28th minute and Sushil Parajuli added the second in the 44th minute for Friends Club while Num Bahadur Gurung pulled one back in the 59th for the APF Club. — HNS
Sarita clinches gold
KATHMANDU: Sarita Thing and Binita Bhujel claimed gold medals here at the Judo selection tournament for the upcoming third Republican Sports Festival on Tuesday. Sarita of Maoists proposed Tamsaling State Sports Committee beat Bibisha Khatri of Limbuwan State Sports Committee to clinch the women’s 32kg gold. Binita defeated Ashmi Gurung for the women’s 36kg gold. Other gold medal winners in women’s section included Sapna Gurung (40kg), Sushmita Lawaj (44kg), Rina Thapa (women’s open). Likewise, gold medal winners in men section were Deepak Rajbanshi (60kg), Ramesh Magar (66kg), Deepak Shrestha (73kg) and Raju Shrestha (81kg). In all, 126 players from eight Maoists-proposed states are competing for 18 gold medals. — HNS
Chhetry dies at 65
KATHMANDU: Nepal Judo Association vice-president Ambika Bahadur Chhetry died at the age of 65 here on Monday. Chhetry was undergoing treatment at the Bir Hospital lately and died of Brain Haemorrhage, informed NJA secretary Baburaja Maharjan. Chhetry was cremated at the Pashupati Aryaghat on Tuesday. — HNS
