U-19 team feted

KATHMANDU: Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) felicitated the ACC U-19 Women’s Championship winning team here on Thursday. CAN handed over Rs 15,000 each to 14 members of the winning team along with coach Jamil Ahmed Ansari for their remarkable achievement. The Nepali team defeated Malaysia by seven wickets in Chiang Mai, Thailand on Tuesday to clinch the championship. Chief sponsor of the Nepali Women Team Wai Wai also presented a cheque of Rs 51,000 to the winning team for their success. Speaking on the occasion, Minister for Youth and Sports Gopal Man Shakya also made commitment to award the team. CAN president Binay Raj Pandey and National Sports Council member secretary Jeevan Ram Shrestha were also present on the occasion. — HNS

LA, Rara Hill in semis

KATHMANDU: Little Angel’s (LA) School and Rara Hill advanced to the boys’ section semi-final of the first Valleywide Basketball Tournament here on Thursday. LA beat hosts Puspasadan 61-36 and Rara Hill edged past Ideal Model School 48-41. Mangal School and Learning Realm International (LRI) also entered the last four with victories in quarter-finals today. Mangal sneaked past Baba Boarding School 68-67 while LRI got a walkover win from Brihaspati. LA will take on Rara Hill and LRI will meet Mangal in the semi-finals. In the girls’ semi-finals, Puspasadan will face LA and Rara Hill will play against LRI. — HNS

NNIPA’s Rock Mania

KATHMANDU: Nepal National and International Players Association (NNIPA) is organising a musical concert “Rock Mania” to raise money for the Players Welfare Fund at the Dasharath Stadium on Saturday. Singers Nima Rumba and Sabin Rai along with 1974 AD and MT 88.48 bands will perform live, said the organisers here on Thursday. Both Rumba and Rai said they were happy to perform for the players’ cause. Royal Stag whisky is the main sponsor while Rum Pum, Galaxy Public School and Pepsi are the co-sponsors of the event, informed the organisers. — HNS
