BSAM triumph

BHAKTAPUR: Bikram Shrestha struck twice as defending champions Birendra Sainik Awashiya Mahavidhyalaya (BSAM) defeated SOS School 2-1 in the final of the TVS Tyre Cup Inter-school Football Tournament organised by Madhyapur Youth Academy here on Monday. Shrestha put BSAM ahead in the 36th minute before Bhesh Raj Khatiwada levelled the scores for SOS in the 44th. But man of the match Shrestha scored the winner four minutes later. Ujjwal Thapa of BSAM was declared the player of the tournament, while his teammate Prem Kumar Basnet was named the best goalkeeper. Khatiwada was adjudged the best midfielder and Karma Norbu Sherpa of Siddhartha Vanasthali the best defender. Sanjay Thapa of Baylor International Academy was declared the best forward of the tournament. The winners received Rs 15,000 while the runners up got Rs 10,000. Minister for Youth and Sports Gopal Shakya gave away the prizes. President of MYA and former national team skipper Upendra Man Singh was also present on the occasion. — HNS

Sixth TIA Cup

KATHMANDU: Himalaya International Model School (HIMS) defeated Grand Academy 43-23 in the boys’ section match at the sixth TIA Cup Inter-school Basketball Tournament on Monday. Robinson of HIMS top scored with 18 points. In other matches, Kumar scored 12 points as Newton beat Trinity 28-25 and Valley Public outplayed TIA ‘B’ 52-24 riding on Rahul Maskey’s 14 points. In the girls’ section, Marsyangdi defeated Reed Model 18-6; Prithvi outplayed Gillette 35-11; TIA beat Advance Academy 26-18; and Valley Public overcame Deep Jyoti 28-14. — HNS

LALITPUR: Trinity International College, Prime and Don Bosco entered the quarter-finals of the basketball tournament held under the Gyan Carnival on Monday. Trinity defeated Golden Gate College 35-31 riding on Deepak Pun’s 16 points; Ravi scored 25 points as Prime thrashed RIBS 52-27; and Don Bosco beat Ace Institute of Management 21-15. — HNS

LACM Meet

LALITPUR: KCM beat NCM 66-34 in the basketball tournament match played under the second LACM Sports Meet. Saneez Shrestha of KCM scored 20 points, while Anaj Sawl of NCM netted 19 points. In the other match, Golden Gate outplayed Xavier Academy 76-16 riding on Wisdom Pandey’s 20 and Ales Tamang’s 17 points. In the girls’ section, LACM defeated LAC 22-15. Ashika scored eight points for the winners. — HNS

Deep Jyoti win

LALITPUR: Deep Jyoti defeated hosts Namuna Machhindra High School 25-10, 25-17 in the inaugural match of the first Valleywide Inter-school Open Volleyball Tournament here on Monday. In the other match, Samakhushi English Boarding (SEB) School beat Lubhoo School 25-13, 26-24. In all, 12 schools are taking part in the tournament, which has been organised by Namuna Machhindra High School on the occasion of its 57th anniversary. — HNS
