Reliance champions

KATHMANDU: Hosts Reliance International Academy claimed the team championship here at the Reliance International Invitational Taekwondo Tournament on Saturday. Reliance won 14 gold, 11 silver and 11 silver medals to top the table while runners up Indian team won 10 gold, five silver and 11 silver medals. Nepali taekwondo star Deepak Bista gave away medals and certificates to the winners. Reliance Academy also honoured Bista on the occasion. — HNS

Murray stuns Federer

Madrid: Andy Murray gained quick revenge for a US Open finals loss to Roger Federer six weeks ago with a 3-6, 6-3, 7-5 win in the semi-finals of the Madrid Masters on Saturday. Murray turned the tables on the Swiss second seed to improve his record in their series to 2-1 this year after a victory in Dubai. The Scot will play for the trophy when he takes on either Rafael Nadal or Gilles Simon. Murray broke for 6-5 in the final set after Federer saved two break points before putting a forehand into the set. Murray earned the victory a game later in just under two hours.— AFP

World T20 C’ship

Mohali: The West Indies will host the World Twenty20 Championship in 2010, the International Cricket Council (ICC) announced on Saturday. The event will be held in place of the Champions Trophy that was to be hosted by West Indies in 2010, ICC chief executive Haroon Lorgat said. The event, slated to be held from April 23 to May 9, will be staged at three venues to be chosen by the ICC Board in January 2009 following nominations from the West Indies Cricket Board. India won the inaugural World Twenty20 Championship in South Africa in 2007. — AFP
