TAC enter final

RUPANDEHI: Raju Tamang scored the solitary goal as Tribhuvan Army Club (TAC) defeated Samsung Jawalakhel Youth Club (JYC) 1-0 to enter the final of the Tilottama Gold Cup Football Tournament here on Thursday. After a goalless draw, Tamang scored the goal in the 57th minute. Raj Kumar Ghising and Raj Kumar KC of Jawalakhel were cautioned with yellow cards during the match. TAC will face Nabil Three Star Club in the final on Saturday. Three Star defeated the hosts Rupandehi-XI 2-0 in the first semi-final match on Wednesday. — HNS

SA ITF C’ship

KATHMANDU: Nepal International Taekwondo Federation (ITF) is organising the first South Asian Taekwondo Championship from December 1-3 in Kathmandu. In all, 200 players, including 80 from Nepal, are taking part in the championship, said the organisers at a press meet. India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Afghanistan and Sri Lanka have confirmed their participation in the championship that offers 39 gold, 39 silver and 64 bronze medals, said tournament convenor Prakash Bosel Thapa. The country winning the most number of medals will be awarded the team championship trophy. The estimated budget of the tournament is Rs 2.7 million, the organisers informed. — HNS

KATHMANDU: Free Student Union of Shanker Dev College is organising the Valleywide Inter-college Basketball Tournament from September 7. In all, 16 colleges affiliated to Tribhuvan University are taking part in the league-cum-knock out tournament, said the organisers at a press meet on Thursday. The participating colleges are divided into four pools and the top two each from all the pools will advance to the quarter-finals.The event is supported by TU Students’ Farewell and Sports Department, the organisers said. — HNS

LALITPUR: Sanepa Club defeated Sakchham Nagar Youth Club 2-1 to go atop Group A standing at the Martyrs Memorial ‘C’ Division League Football here on Thursday. Samir Katuwal and Rabin Rai scored in the second half after Ramesh Tamang had put Sakchham Nagar ahead in the 24th minute. Sanepa lead the standing with 12 points from five matches. Charumati Yuva Pariwar, who defeated Garuda Sports Club 3-0, are second with 10 points from six matches. Ramesh Katuwal, Kiran Rai and Susan Lama scored for Charumati. Madhyapur Youth Association are third with nine points from five matches. — HNS

New Zenith Cup

KATHMANDU: New Zenith English Model School is organising the first New Zenith Cup Basketball Tournament from September 7. A total of 28 school teams — 11 in senior boys and 16 in junior boys sections — are taking part in the tournament, said the organisers at a press meet. The teams are divided into four groups in both the categories and the top two teams will qualify for the quarter-finals of the league-cum-knock out tournament, said Raju Maharjan, Principal of the school. — HNS

KATHMANDU: Valley Public Higher Secondary School is organising the third Valley Public Basketball Tournament from Friday. In all, 55 teams are participating in the 10-day tournament. The 32 participating teams in the boys section and 23 in girls section are divided into eight groups of four each, said founder principal Krishna Prasad Adhikari at a press meet on Thursday. The top two teams each from all the groups in both the categories will advance to the last sixteen. — HNS
