ANFA U-19 team wins

KATHMANDU: The ANFA U-19 team hammered Rinchenpong Football Club 6-0 in the Independence Day Cup Football Tournament in Sikkim on Thursday. skipper Nirajan Malla and Sujan Shrestha scored two goals each and Jagadish Shrestha and Shiva Shrestha added one apiece. On Sunday, the Nepali team will play against the winners of the match between Technical-XI and Mangalbari, said ANFA. In all, 22 teams are taking part in the tournament. — HNS

NIMS, Intensive win

KATHMANDU: Jeevan Bhattarai netted 24 points as NIMS cruised to a comfortable 58-21 win over Arunodaya School in the senior boys’ section match at the second Intensive Inter-school Basketball Tournament. In other senior boys’ matches, Suman Sunuwar scored 21 points in hosts Intensive’s 51-21 win over Galaxy, Angel’s Heart overcame Nalanda School 25-14, Siddhartha Vanasthali defeated Excelsior 35-20 and Wilson Academy edged past New Zennith 52-41. In the girls’ section, NIMS crushed Arunodaya 33-2, Angel’s Heart beat Rupy’s International School 9-5 and Galaxy edged Bright Horizon 7-3. In the only junior boys’ match, NIMS overcame Angel’s Heart 15-6. — HNS

Friendly football

KATHMANDU: Nabil Three Star Club (NTSC) and New Road Team (NRT) will play a friendly football match here at the Dasharath Stadium on August 16. All Nepal Football Association (ANFA) and UNDP are jointly organising the match to raise public awareness on natural disaster, said the ANFA vice-president and spokesperson Lalit Krishna Shrestha here on Thursday. — HNS

Indo-Nepal Karate

KATHMANDU: Nepal Budokaido Full Contact Association is organising the third Indo-Nepal Budokaido Karate Tournament in Kathmandu on Friday and Saturday. In all, 275 players — 180 from Nepal and 95 from India — are taking part in the event, said the organisers. The event offers nine gold medals — below 20kg, 25kg, 30kg, 35kg, 40kg, 45kg, 50kg, 55kg and above 55kg — in men’s and five — below 35kg, 40kg, 45kg, 50kg and above 50kg — in women’s section. — HNS
