Rana elected

KATHMANDU: The first general assembly of Nepal Golf Association (NGA)

on Friday has unanimously elected 16-member exe-cutive committee under President Binod Shumsher Rana. The NGA was run by the ad-hoc committee for the last 25 years. Others in the committee include three vice-presidents

Madhukar Yakthumba, Prachanda Bahadur Shrestha and Shanker Man Shakya, general secretary Tashi Ghale, secretary Dorje Chhiring and treasurer Gautam Sayami. Among the members are Purna Man Shakya, Trishakti Joshi, Chuna Bahadur Bhandari, Man Bahadur Limbu, Deep Bahadur Basnet, Narendra Kumar Rai, Madan Rana, Keshang Lama and Tashi Chhiring Lama. The committee will be later extended to 23 with the president and National Sports Council nominating two members each. Three more members will be nominated by executive committee itself. — HNS

KATHMANDU: Ratna Limbu and Wilson Sherchan scored a hat-trick each and Santosh Rai added another as Rudramati Youth Club crushed Santi Youth Club 7-0 in the C Division League qualifying football match here on Saturday. In another match, Sports Special Club humiliated Sathi Bhai Youth Club 9-0 on four goals from Kalden Shrestha and one goal each from Sujit Singh Thakuri, Raj Kumar Lama, Rajeev Lama, Pawan Lama and Sanjeev Devkota. Likewise, Dhuncho Youth Club eased past Dewasthali Samaj Sudhar Club 3-0 on two goals from Roshan Chaudhary and one from Pradeep Ghimire. — HNS

Thapa triumphs

LALITPUR: Hira Bahadur Thapa clinched the men’s singles championship with a 9-4, 9-4, 9-4 win over Chhabi Lal Paija in the first CG TV Squash Tournament here on Saturday. Paija, however, claimed the masters’ title with a 9-4, 9-2, 9-3 victory over Sudip Bahadur Singh. Likewise, Bhawana Sunuwar claimed the women’s league. Amrit Thapa bounced back from two sets deficit to beat Dig Bijay Singh 1-9, 8-10, 10-8, 9-0, 9-1 in junior section final. Also, Dhan Bahadur won the Plate Championship final. — HNS

LALITPUR: Smart Choice Technology beat CAA Trading 3-0 and Nepal Investment Bank edged past Asian Trekking 1-0 to enter quarter-finals of the fifth DHL Six A-side Soccer Cup here on Saturday. Also advancing to the last eight were Gorkha Organisation, Everest Bank, ICTC, Lotus Holding, Chaudhary Group and Jyoti Group. The quarter-finals, semi-finals and final will be played on July 12. — HNS
