Kwik’s basketball

KATHMANDU: Ideal English Higher Secondary School is organising the first Kwik’s Ideal English Inter-school Basketball Tournament from June 14-20. In all, 16 teams each in both the boys’ and girls’ sections will vie for the championships, said the organisers at a press meet on Friday. — HNS

NITF players feted

KATHMANDU: Nepal International Taekwondo Federation (NITF) felicitated a 12-member team who participated in the Open Invitational Taekwondo Championship held in Banaras from June 7-9. The Nepali team had won seven gold and two bronze medals in Banaras while also finishing second in Team Sparring. Tulasa Thapa Magar (40-45kg), Arati Raut (45-50), Ishwar Khanal (45-50), Sunil Basnet (50-55), Manoj Khadka (55-60), Ayush Shrestha (60-65) and KI Singh Ghale (65-70) had won gold medals, while Manoj Ghale (40-45) and Ram Shrestha (70-75) bagged bronze medals. Meanwhile, NITF is organising the fourth Gereral Choi Memorial Taekwondo Tournament here from Saturday. — HNS

Rooney ties the knot

ROME: Manchester United and England striker Wayne Rooney married his childhood sweetheart in a private ceremony on the Italian Riviera, news reports said on Friday. Rooney and Coleen McLoughlin, both 22, tied the knot in a 17th-century villa in Santa Margherita Ligure, a resort on Italy’s northwestern coast. — AP

Milan sign Zambrotta

BARCELONA: AC Milan have signed Barcelona’s Italian fullback Gianluca Zambrotta in a deal thought to be worth $14 million (nine million euros), the Catalan club’s website said Friday. The 31-year-old has agreed a four-year deal which added that Zambrotta will earn an extra two million euros if the Rossoneri qualify for the Champions League during the next four seasons. — AFP
