KATHMANDU: Nepal won five matches and lost one at the U-14 Festival of Football in Tehran on Wednesday. Nepal defeated Maldives 2-0, Afghanistan 1-0, Pakistan 1-0, Sri Lanka 4-0 and Bhutan 1-0. Nepal, however, lost 0-1 against hosts Iran. The five-day event is participated

Davenport pulls out

PARIS: Former No 1 Lindsay Davenport has withdrawn from of the French Open, the only Grand Slam singles event that she has never won. Tournament organisers said on Tuesday that the 31-year-old American withdrew for “personal reasons,” without elaborating. — AP

Injured Alex dropped

SAO PAULO: Chelsea defender Alex was dropped from Brazil’s squad on Tuesday because of an injury and will miss two World Cup qualifiers and two friendlies. Brazil play the qualifiers at Paraguay on June 15 and host rival Argentina three days later. The two friendlies are against Canada on May 31 and Venezuela on June 6. — AP
