Wilson win inaugural tie

KATHMANDU: Wilson Academy defeated Elite’s Co-Ed 58-25 in the inaugural match of the Wilson Hoops 2008 Basketball Tournament here on Saturday. Navaraj Dahal of Wilson top-scored in the match with 20 points. In the other match of the day, Gyanodaya Bal Batika beat Shuvatara 27-16 riding on 11 points from Abhilasha Limbu. Earlier, Constituent Assembly member Nabindra Raj Joshi inaugurated the tournament. A total of 70 teams from 40 schools of Kathmandu Valley are taking part in the tournament. — HNS

KATHMANDU: Himalayan English Ideal School edged out Pabitra Prarthana Boarding School 3-2 in tie breaker at the Coca Cola Cup Central Region School Football selection tournament here on Saturday. Likewise, Lakpa Sherpa struck a hat-trick and Ujjwol Rokka added one goal as Little Angels’ School blanked Siddhartha Children Academy 4-0 and Nightingale School cruised past Namuna Machhindra 4-1. Santosh Thapa scored a brace while Ayush Thapa and Robin Thapa added one apiece for Nightingale. Raju Gurung converted for Namuna. in the last match, Mangal Deep School overcame Sri Kumari School 4-0 on two goals from Chhiring Kinley and one each from Ningmar Lama and Gyangen Sherpa. — HNS

Sarwan named WI captain

ST JOHN’S: Middle-order batsman Ramnaresh Sarwan will lead the West Indies against Australia in the first Test at Sabina Park, Jamaica from May 22 to 26. Dwayne Bravo was named vice-captain when the squad was announced by the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) on Friday. Chris Gayle, who led the team in the home series against Sri Lanka in March and April, has been ruled out due to a groin injury. Left-handed opening batsman Sewnarine Chattergoon is recovering from a shoulder injury and was also unavailable for selection. — AFP
