Football festival
LALITPUR: President of All Nepal Football Association Ganesh Thapa on Thursday bade farewell to the 24-member team slated to participate in the AFC U-14 Festival of Football to be held in Iran from May 18. Apart from Nepal, Bhutan, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, India, Maldives, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Iran will compete in the event. The Nepali team will leave for Iran on Friday. — HNS
Regional cricket
KATHMANDU: Greenland Children’s Academy and Regional Cricket Development Committee, Region No 3 (Kathmandu), are jointly organising the Regional Women’s Cricket Tournament here at the TU Stadium from May 25. The league-cum-knock out tournament, recognised by Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN), will feature 12 teams from Kathmandu valley, said the organisers at a press meet on Thursday. CAN will provide the technical support for the tournament including the TU grounds and the umpires. The GCA is also organising the Inter-school Boys’ Twenty20 Cricket Tournament. President of Region No 3 President Upendra Bhattarai and GCA Principal Sunil Pradhan among others were present on the occasion. — HNS

KATHMANDU: Durbar High School edged out Buddha Prabhat School 2-1 in the Central Region Coca Cola Cup School Football Tournament here on Thursday. Suman Thapa and Gokul Thapa scored for Durbar School while Dibesh Adhikari converted for Buddha Prabhat. Sri Kumar Lama scored a hattrick, Nischal Lamichhane netted two and Dipesh Tamang added one goal as Mahendra Bhrikuti School crushed Deep High School 6-1. Anish Nepali pulled one back for Deep School. Likewise, Nepal Central School sneaked past Namuna School 1-0 on a goal from Bishwo Raj Shahi. Shrine Valley beat Anupam School 5-4 in sudden death after a 2-2 draw. — HNS
