Shilpakar bereaved

KATHMANDU: Member of the Nepal Sports Journalists’ Forum (NSJF) Sanjeev Shilpakar is bereaved of his father. Shilpakar’s father, Julam, suffered a heart stroke and died at the hospital on Friday night. He was 65. A lifelong member of Nabil Three Star Club, Julam was the former joint secretary of All Nepal Football Association. He is survived by two sons and two daughters. — HNA

Boca Juniors fined

BUENOS AIRES: The South American Football Federation (CONMEBOL) on Friday ordered that Boca Juniors’ stadium be closed and the Argentine club be fined $30,000 after a referee’s assistant was attacked during a Copa Libertadores match. The incident occured after the referee stopped Wednesday’s Copa Libertadores last 16 first leg tie between Boca and Brazilian club Cruzeiro minutes before the final whistle, with the Argentine side leading 2-1. — AFP

Hopeful Ibrahimovic

STOCKHOLM: Sweden’s star striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic insisted on Saturday that he was confident he would be fit for EURO 2008 despite suffering from a lingering knee injury. “I’ll be in good condition to play then,” he told the Swedish regional daily Sydsvenskan. Ibrahimovic said he was hopeful of finishing the season with his Serie A team Inter Milan. The striker missed out on a friendly against Brazil last month because of the knee tendon problem. — AFP

Bohn takes lead

Charlotte: Jason Bohn withstood difficult afternoon conditions to seize a two-shot lead on Friday after two rounds of the $6.4 million Wachovia Championship. Bohn posted a superb five-under 67. Anthony Kim (67) was in second place at 7-under 137. Former champion Jim Furyk was among a trio three shots back. — AFP
