Deshemaru wins gold medal
KATHMANDU: Sajan Deshemaru won the Nan Quan gold medal at the third South Asian Wushu Championship in Dhaka on Thursday. So far the Nepali team has won two gold, three silver and four bronze medals. Gyan Bahadur Pakhrin (48kg), Raj Kumar Rasaili (52kg) and Yuvraj Gurung (56kg) advanced to the men’s San Shou finals. On Wednesday, Aang Babu Lama had earned gold in Thaichi Chen while Roshan Gurung won a bronze. Bikash Gurung claimed Chan Quan and Kunsu silver medals while Ramesh Suwal bagged the Kunshu bronze medal. In the women’s Chan Quan, Bhuwan Shrestha won silver and Srijana Gurung the bronze. Sharmila Karanjit claimed the women’s Thaichi bronze medal. — HNS
Fishtail triumph
KATHMANDU: Fishtail Academy beat leaders Bright Future School 25-22, 16-25, 16-25, 25-22, 15-11 at the Dhorpatan Blue Sky Cup Women’s Volleyball League. Fishtail also overcame Bhaktapur Training Centre 25-10, 25-12, 25-9. Gyanu Babu beat New Diamond 25-6, 25-3, 25-7 before defeating PLA Second Division 25-6, 25-18, 25-7. Top Boarding School sneaked past hosts Chhantyal Sports Team 25-17, 25-15, 21-25, 17-25, 16-14 before dispatching Bhaktapur team 25-8, 25-16, 25-13. — HNS
