Lel wins in London
LONDON: Martin Lel won the London Marathon for the third time in four years on Sunday, and Irina Mikitenko took the women’s race.
Lel outsprinted fellow Kenyan athlete Sammy Wanjiru by nine seconds to win in a personal-best time of 2 hours, 5 minutes, 15 seconds. Abderrahim Goumri was third in 2:05:30. Mikitenko won in 2 hours, 24 minutes, 14 seconds beating Svetlana
Zakharova by 25 seconds. Gete Wami come third in 2:25:37. Meanwhile, William Kipsang set a course record to win the Rotterdam Marathon and lead a Kenyan sweep. Kipsang finished the race in 2:5:49 beating Kenyan Felix Limo’s previous mark
of 2:06:14 in 2004. Daniel Rono finished second in 2:06:58 and Charles Kamathi was third in 2:07:33. — AP
