KATHMANDU: The Olympic Solidarity Level 1 Coaches’ Course began here under the auspices of Nepal Volleyball Association on Monday. A total of 30 participants — including three from India — are taking part in the 12-day course. German expert Cristian Krogaj is conducting the course supported by International Volleyball Federation. — HNS

KATHMANDU: Kathmandu University edged past Reliance Academy 39-38 in the second Benoj Memorial Inter-college (+2) Basketball Tournament on Monday. In other matches, Cosmos defeated Maha Manjushree 27-22, Bernhardt crusied to a 49-12 win over Sagarmatha, Thapathali Campus overcame Campion College 33-22 and Everest College outscored Suvashree 51-20. O’Neill dies at 71

MELBOURNE: Norm O’Neill, a Wisden cricketer of the year in 1962 and a 42-Test veteran for Australia, died late on Sunday aged 71. O’Neill scored 181 in the tied Test against the West Indies at Brisbane in 1960, one of six centuries in a Test career that netted 2,779 runs from 1958-1965. — AP

U-19 champs feted

NEW DELHI: India’s cricket chiefs on Monday announced a cash award of $37,500 for each member of the ICC Under-19 World Cup winning squad. Virat Kohli’s junior cricketers regained the Cup on Sunday with a 12-run victory over South Africa in Malaysia.
