Ferrer quits job

ATHENS: Lorenzo Serra Ferrer resigned on Tuesday as coach of AEK Athens after successive defeats left it third in the Greek league. AEK officials told state-run NET television that the 54-year-old Spaniard quit after a meeting with chairman Demis Nikolaidis. Former AEK player Nikos Kostenoglou was named as caretaker coach. Former Brazil forward Rivaldo and other recent signings had helped AEK take the lead in the Greek league earlier this year, but defeats by Panionios and Larissa left it four points off the lead. — AP
