Gambhir, Afridi fined

DUBAI: India’s Gautam Gambhir and Pakistan’s Shahid Afridi have both been fined after physically colliding during their sides’ one-dayers in Kanpur on Sunday, the International Cricket Council said. Gambhir has been fined 65 per cent of his match fee while Afridi’s fine comes to 95 per cent of his match fee. A heated altercation took place between the two players that forced umpire Ian Gould to get involved. — AFP

Lara, Inzy confirmed

NEW DELHI: Former Test captains Brian Lara and Inzamam-ul Haq were confirmed to play in the rebel Twenty20 league following a goof-up over players’ lists. The names of Lara and Inzamam, touted as star attractions of the Indian Cricket League (ICL), were missing when the six teams for the inaugural event were announced earlier on Wednesday. — AFP
