Adhikari honoured

LALITPUR: Parsa Milan Kendra (PMK) honoured Lila Adhikari, who won bronze medal in the 52kg weight category at the eighth Junior Judo Championship held in Hyderabad from November 5-7, here on Monday. Chief Justice Kedar Prasad Giri gave away Rs 10,000 to Adhikari amidst a programme organised by PMK to mark the 10th Parsa Diwas. Adhikari, who hails from Birgunj, was one of the 20 Nepali players who took part in the championship. Adhikari was feted for her gold medals in 48 and 52kg in the national championship held in Jhapa and silver at the Hong Kong International in 2005. — HNS

Creamer wins

ALABAMA: Paula Creamer ran away with the Tournament of Champions on Sunday, winning by eight strokes. The 21-year-old Californian closed with her second straight 4-under 68 to finish at 20-under 268. Creamer earned $150,000 for her second victory of the year and fourth in three seasons on the LPGA Tour. Birdie Kim (68) was second at 12 under, and Annika Sorenstam (70), Natalie Gulbis (68) and Pat Hurst (72) tied for third at 10 under in the event for tournament winners from 2004-07 and active Hall of Famers. — AP

Kanu,Utaka ruled out

PORTSMOUTH: Nigeria strikers Nwankwo Kanu and John Utaka were ruled out of their country’s friendly against Australia. The pair were due to join up with Nigeria for Saturday’s clash against the Socceroos in London, but suffered injuries playing in Portsmouth’s goalless draw with Manchester City on Sunday. Portsmouth manager Harry Redknapp insisted that Kanu, who has a hamstring injury, and Utaka, who has a groin strain, will remain with the Premier League club and have treatment for the next two weeks. — AFP

Benayoun out

LIVERPOOL: Israel captain Yossi Benayoun has been ruled out of action for three weeks after a scan revealed an adductor tear, his Liverpool team confirmed on Monday. Club spokesman Ian Cotton said: “A scan has confirmed Benayoun sustained a tear against Fulham.” The injury will rule the 27-year-old out his country’s Euro 2008 qualifier against Russia on Saturday. — AFP
