RIBS lift trophy
KATHMANDU: Rhododendron International Boarding School (RIBS) defeated Godavari Alumni Association (GAA) 61-55 in final of the third Fr Watrin Women Open Basketball Tournament here on Saturday. Anisha Tulachan netted match-winning 31points for RIBS while Katie Kilcline scored 23 for GAA. Prasansa Thapa of GAA was declared the Most Valuable Player of the tournament, which was participated in by 10 teams. — HNS
Baiju, Magar in semis
Kathmandu: Sarita Baiju, Sarita Magar, Mira Adhikari of Canvas School and Samjhana Kunwar of Blue Moon advanced to the girls’ singles semi-finals at the first Kathmandu District Inter-school Running Shield Table Tennis Tournament. Baiju beat Norsang Lama of Blue Moon 11-3, 11-1, 11-1 while Magar defeated Rabina Maharjan of Southern Paradise 11-9, 11-7, 12-10. Likewise, Adhikari overcame Sharmila Nepali 11-5, 11-6, 11-8 and Kunwar edged past Hema Lama of Greenfield 12-10, 11-8, 11-9. In the girls’ doubles quarter-finals, Norsang Lama and Samjhana Kunwar of Blue Moon defeated Sangita and Bidhya of Oliver School and the dup of Hema and Suna of Greenfield overcame Nita and Prachina. Also entering to the semi-finals in the girls’ doubles section were the duo of Sabina and Sharmila who beat Anita and Manju 11-6, 11-9, 11-8, and Sarita and Mira who beat Sajina and Chhimi 11-4, 12-10, 11-9. In all, 80 boys and 40 girls are taking part in the two-day event organised by N-PABSON. The tournament includes singles and doubles events in both the boy and girls’ section. — HNS
Karate tournament
KATHMANDU: Bouddha Dojo is organising the 20th Valleywide Shito Ryu Karate and Kickboxing Tournament here on September 22-23. Karatekas will vie for 26 gold medals - 18 official karate (10 in men and 8 in women’s weight categories, six in kickboxing including two in women’s and one each in individual kata in men and women’s section. A total of 176 men and 121 women players have confirmed their participation, said the organisers on Saturday. — HNS
