KATHMANDU: Valley Public School entered the quarter-finals in both the boy’s and girl’s sections at the first Forward Inter-school Basketball Tournament. The girl’s team beat Rajan Memorial 24-4 before crushing Bishnumati School 41-2 in another league match. The boy’s team outplayed National Model School 53-18. In other boy’s section matches, North Point defeated Mt Glory 38-26, VS Niketan edged past hosts Forward Academy 30-21 and Puspanjali beat Arunodaya 21-15. — HNS
Monsoon Meet-2007
KATHMANDU: Wilson Academy won the senior boy’s championship with a 61-59 win over Unique School in the Monsoon Meet-2007 Basketball Tournament on Saturday. Little Angels beat Sridiwa 24-21 to claim the girl’s championship but Sridiwa bagged the junior boy’s title defeating RIBS 51-49. Krishna Gurung of Sridiwa won the Most Valuable Player (MVP) in junior boy’s section while Little Angels’ Arati Tulachan and Nawaraj Dahal of Wilson were adjudged the MVPs in girl’s and senior boy’s sections respectively. — HNS
Henman ousted
New York: Rafael Nadal’s injured left knee looked well, Novak Djokovic withstood an upset bid, Britain’s Tim Henman bid farewell and five women’s stars advanced at the US Open on Friday. Nadal advanced when Janko Tipsarevic retired with the Spaniard leading 6-2, 6-3, 3-2. Nadal’s next foe will be France’s Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, who won 7-6 (7/2), 2-6, 7-5, 6-4 over Henman. Djokovic conquered Czech rival Radek Stepanek 6-7 (4/7), 7-6 (7/5), 5-7, 7-5, 7-6 (7/2). Tommy Robredo beat American Mardy Fish 6-4, 3-6, 6-4, 6-7 (7/9), 6-4. KATHMANDU: Sete Nagarkoti and Ujjwol Shrestha scored a goal each as Nawajyoti Youth Club beat Satdobato Youth Club 2-0 in the Western Union Martyrs Memorial ‘C’ Division League Football on Saturday. In another match, Himalayan Sherpa Club defeated Chandeswori Youth Club 4-1. Hari Thakuri, Sonam Lama, Bhola Rai and Dinesh Karki scored a goal each for Himalayan Sherpa while Pukar Bikram Shah converted for Chandeswori. — HNS
