Classic basketball

KATHMANDU: Classic College International is organising the Classic Invitational Basketball Tournament from Tuesday. A total of 12 teams in boys’ and six in girls’ sections are taking part in the tournament. The finals of both the categories are scheduled for July 16, said the organisers at a press meet on Monday. Top two teams from each of the four pools in the boys’ section will qualify for the quarter-finals while top two teams from each of the two groups in the girls’ section will enter the semi-finals. — HNS

C Div selection

KATHMANDU: All Nepal Football Association (ANFA) is organising the selection tournament for the Martyrs’ Memorial ‘C’ Division League at the Sanogaucharan grounds from July 11. In all, 73 clubs are taking part in the knock out tournament, said ANFA in a release. The participating teams are divided into four groups and top team from all the four pools will qualify for the ‘C’ Division League slated for late August. The draw ceremony was held at the ANFA Complex on Sunday. Unity Club will take on Bal Premi Khelkud Mandal in the inaugural match. — HNS

Girls’ basketball

KATHMANDU: Mahendra Bhawan Higher Secondary School is organising the first Mahendra Bhawan Inter-school Girls’ Basketball Tournament from July 11-18. In all, 20 schools are taking part in the league-cum-knock out tournament. Top two teams from each of the four groups will advance to the quarter-finals. The participating schools are Rato Bangala, Mahendra Bhawan, Shuvatara (Lamatar), Young Hearts, Rose Buds, Triyog, Xavier International, Gyan Niketan, Fluorescent, Trungram International, Bhanubhakta, Suryodaya, New Summit, Himalaya, Valley Public, Gillette, Elite Co-ed, Sewa Sadan, Little Angels’ and Malpi International. — HNS

Rupandehi win

HETAUDA: Rupandehi came from behind to beat Makawanpur 2-1 in the inaugural match of the National Football Tournament, which has been organised by Makawanpur Football Association in memory of the Jana Andolan II martyrs, here on Monday. Makawanpur took the lead in the 22nd minute through a goal from Sagar Basnet, but Rupandehi emerged victorious scoring two goals in the second half. Skipper Dilip Chhetri levelled the scores and Ramesh Pun found the winner for Rupandehi. On Tuesday, Sahara Club of Pokhara will take on Samsung Jawalakhel Youth Club. — HNS
